Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20 1964) was an American lawyer, politician, and the current vice president of United States. Harris is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a member the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general for California in 2011-2017 and a United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she became the San Francisco district attorney. In 2010, Harris was appointed Attorney General of California. She was reelected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election making her the second African American woman to serve in Congress , and the only South Asian American American to do so in the United States Senate. Harris was a senator who advocated for health care and federal de-scheduling of cannabis. A pathway towards citizenship for migrants who aren't legal. The DREAM Act bans assault weapons and progressive tax reform. The sharp questions she asked Trump officials during Senate hearings has garnered her national attention, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
